Last year a new gun law was passed allowing citizens with the right qualifications take a class to earn licensing, which allows guns on campus. The classes should begin this April. Classes are already taught in various locations in Oxford. Ole Miss is currently preparing for the class to be taught here on campus.
As being the safest campus in the SEC and the Top 9th safest campus in the nation, students are quite comfortable in their school environment. Little are they aware of the new school course, which will allow carrying concealed guns on campus. The few who are aware of this have some concerns about the issue. Lately there has been an outbreak of shootings in America on campuses.
There are 2 hour classes, after successfully completing each class you will be merited with the proper licensing. First you will receive the firearms permit, which will not allow you to carry guns on campus but will permit you to continue the next class. After completing all 16 hours worth of classes, you will then be awarded the special enhanced permit, which gives you the ability to carry guns on public property.
However, with this in mind, you are still not aloud to carry concealed guns anywhere, Nathan Yow, attorney and owner of a firearms shop, does want people to know that if an institution has rules restricting gun, you are not allowed to bring them on their premises. You will get in trouble if caught regardless of the license.
